Privacy Policy — HalalLog
Last updated: July 12, 2026
HalalLog (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is operated by 87Lab. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using HalalLog, you agree to this policy.
If you have any questions, contact us at contact@halallog.com.
Summary
- We collect only what the app needs to work: your account details, your trip data, and — with your permission — your location.
- Photos you scan with the Halal Scanner are analysed to detect ingredients and are not stored by us.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We use trusted third-party services (listed below) to provide the app's features.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google.
Trip and saved content. Trips, itineraries, saved places, and similar content you create in the app are stored so they can sync across your devices when you are signed in. If you use the app without an account, this data stays on your device.
Location information.With your permission, the app uses your device's location to show prayer times, Qibla direction, and nearby halal restaurants and prayer spaces. You can deny or revoke this permission in your device settings; some location-based features will then be limited.
Scanner images. When you use the Halal Scanner, the photo you capture or upload is sent for analysis to identify ingredients and produce a halal/doubtful/haram assessment. These images are processed only to generate that result and are not retained or stored by us after processing.
Usage information. We keep basic counts of certain actions (such as the number of scans or searches per day) to enforce fair-use limits. This does not identify you personally beyond your account.
Device and technical data.Standard technical information (such as device model, operating system, app version, and error reports) is processed to keep the app working and to diagnose problems — see “Analytics and Crash Reporting” below.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information above to:
- create and secure your account;
- store and sync your trips and saved content;
- provide location-based features (prayer times, Qibla, nearby places);
- run the Halal Scanner and return results;
- enforce fair-use limits on certain features;
- operate, maintain, and improve the app.
3. Third-Party Services
HalalLog relies on the following third-party providers to deliver its features. Each processes data only as needed for that feature:
- Supabase — account authentication and secure storage of your account and trip data.
- Google — Google Sign-In, and Google Maps / Places for restaurant and location search.
- Anthropic — the Halal Scanner sends your scanned image for AI analysis. Images are used only to generate the result and are not stored by us.
- PostHog— product analytics (see “Analytics and Crash Reporting” below).
- Sentry— crash reporting (see “Analytics and Crash Reporting” below).
- Viator, Agoda, and Travelpayouts— when you tap a tour, hotel, flight, or related link in the Explore section, you are taken to that partner's site to view or book. Those partners operate under their own privacy policies, and a booking you make there may earn us a referral commission.
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these providers for details on their own processing.
4. Analytics and Crash Reporting
To understand how the app is used and to fix problems, we use two service providers:
- PostHog (product analytics, hosted in the United States) — collects usage events, such as which screens you visit and when features like the Scanner or restaurant search are used, together with your device model, operating system and version, app version, and an approximate location derived from your IP address (city level). We do not send PostHog the text of your searches, the contents or results of your scans, or your precise GPS location. Analytics events are pseudonymous and are not tied to your name or email address.
- Sentry (crash reporting) — if the app crashes or encounters an error, a report containing the technical error details, device model, operating system, and app version is sent to Sentry so we can diagnose and fix the problem.
We use this information only to improve the app and fix defects. Because PostHog is hosted in the United States, this data is processed there (see “International Users”).
5. Affiliate Links and Bookings
Affiliate disclosure. The Explore section contains links to travel partners, including Viator, Agoda, and Travelpayouts brands (such as Aviasales). If you make a booking or purchase after following one of these links, we may earn a referral commission, at no additional cost to you. This is how HalalLog is funded.
Your booking is with the partner, not with us. When you book a tour, hotel, flight, or other travel product through a partner link, your contract is with that partner — for tours booked through Viator, Viator is the merchant of record. The partner, not HalalLog, handles payment, confirmations, changes, cancellations, refunds, and customer service, under its own terms and privacy policy.
Our role. HalalLog is an intermediary that surfaces these offers. We do not operate, sell, or deliver the travel products themselves, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not responsible or liable for their availability, quality, safety, the accuracy of partner listings or prices, or for any loss arising from a booking made with a partner. Questions about a booking should be directed to the partner you booked with.
6. Advertising
HalalLog may show optional, opt-in rewarded advertisements in limited parts of the app (for example, to unlock additional scans). We do not show advertisements in the Prayer section. If advertising identifiers are used in the future, this policy will be updated to describe them.
7. Data Sharing and Selling
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with the service providers listed above, and only to the extent needed to operate the app, or where required by law.
8. Data Retention
We keep your account and trip data for as long as your account exists. Scanner images are not retained after processing. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see below).
9. Your Rights and Choices
- Access and deletion. You can request access to, or deletion of, your personal data by emailing contact@halallog.com.
- Location. You can grant or revoke location permission in your device settings.
- Account. You can sign out at any time; using the app as a guest keeps your data on your device only.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. Contact us to exercise them.
10. Children's Privacy
HalalLog is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International Users
Your data may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country (for example, our database region). By using the app, you consent to this transfer.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
